Divine Healing. We have all thought about this from time to time, especially as we get older. A lot of statements are made; which are true, which are false? We all have a choice to make about where we go to get our answers. I like to get my answers from the Bible, so this following page will have answers that reflect absolute truth as a basis. As you can imagine even then there are a lot of different ideas and interpretations about what the Bible actually means as a topic is discussed.
One of the benefits of the military was that it honed ones ability to reason. If you assumed too much and did not correctly line up the facts, you came up with the wrong answer. That attribute teamed up with faith in God's Son Jesus Christ will go a long way. Remember the the scripture from Colossians 2:2 &3; "... the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."
Let us look at one more body of scripture before we continue forward. Lets look at Colossians 1:13-19.
13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.
17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him
A relationship with God through Jesus is the answer in arriving at absolute truth. Now lets get back to divine healing.
Many preachers say if you have enough faith; you can be healed. Just increase your faith and ask God and expect healing. Lets look at this idea and line it up with what we know to be in the Bible. One of the real blessings in my life was to completely read through the bible. There are events, ideas, and concepts in its content that I never heard anyone else speak of. The Bible is a gold mine of nuggets of truth, but we will not know of them unless we mine for them by studying scripture. The Bible has the answers, it has the truth; will we look in it for answers and ask God to illumine our minds?
Jesus Christ walked upon this earth healing people of all walks of life. He is the Divine Healer. When people asked Christ to heal them, he did so. In that time period he was proving his power over sin and death, validating that he has the power to forgive. His apostles were also given the ability to heal through faith in Christ. But let me ask you did the Christ or his apostles heal everyone that were in their vicinity. No they did not.
God allows his servants to have illnesses:
Lets start first with Job. In the first part of that book in the Bible this statement was made. Job 1:1 In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil." Read a little further and we learn that the suffering that Job went through was a test, to prove to Satan that Job would not curse God in all that Pain. Jobs three friends showed up to comfort him. They were so struck with his suffering that they were silent for 7 days. Then when they opened their mouths, they told Job to fess up, to openly confess his sins and God would forgive him. Job got to such a low state that he wished he had never been born. But he never cursed God. Job's friends were wrong about him; Job had to pray for them so God would have mercy on them. God did finally heal Job's health and restored double all that he had lost. God does heal in his timing, if it is in accordance with his will.
Daniel
8:27 I, Daniel, was exhausted and lay ill for several days. Then I got up and went about the king's business. I was appalled by the vision; it was beyond understanding
Epaphroditus
Phil 2:25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs.
26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill.
27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow.
28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety.
29 Welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor men like him,
30 because he almost died for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for the help you could not give me.
Trophimus
2 Timothy 4:20 Erastus stayed in Corinth, and I left Trophimus sick in Miletus.
God did not heal:
Elisha
2 Kings 13:14 Now Elisha was suffering from the illness from which he died. Jehoash king of Israel went down to see him and wept over him. "My father! My father!" he cried. "The chariots and horsemen of Israel!"
Timothy
1 Timothy 5:23 Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.
Paul
2 Cor 12:7 To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.
8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.
9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
To tell someone they can be healed if they have enough faith is wrong. And Cruel! It is ok to ask for God's healing. The outcome will be in accordance to his will; what he will allow to happen. We do not have his intellect. We don't have knowledge of all his purposes. He may heal, he may wait, or he may not heal. But one thing for sure; you can have confidence that he loves and accepts you if you reach out to him through his Son Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin.
16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Ask the Lord to heal, and also see a good Doctor!
