The Law of the God of the Bible
Simon Peter answered Jesus, "Lord, to whom shall we go?You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God." John 6: 68-69
Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. Then he arose from the dead 3 days later.
Did he die for just the little sinners that put their hope and trust in Him?
Did he die for the big sinners?
Did he die for the gigantic sinners?
Yes! He died for all those who believe and trust in him.
I can remember reading some passages of scripture when younger and had questions wondering just what they meant. It is amazing what light is shed as the years go by and one learns more of the Lord.
When listening to the message below by Erwin Lutzer, this brought to mind the warning passage in Hebrews 10:26-31.
?If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the Law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, ?It is mine to avenge; I will repay,? and again, ?The Lord will judge his people.? It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.?
When younger I used to wonder if I was too wicked for God to save, or if I had stepped too for over the line and crossed into perdition? The answer came with time; the Lord wanted this warning to really sink in and for me to grasp the importance of what is being conveyed. This falls right in line Erwin Lutzer?s comments that he makes in the message below on the MP3 player.
The best way to know God is to know his words and how they relate to the relationship between man and himself. Hebrews 10:26 has to be balanced with his other words, because truth gives light when his word is properly understood.
Let us look at what scripture from the Old and New Testament say:
Ezekiel 18:21-23
?But if a wicked man turns away from all the sins he has committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die. None of the offenses he has committed will be remembered against him. Because of the righteous things he has done, he will live. Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live??
Ezekiel 18:31-32
? Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel?
?For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!
Isaiah 1:18-20
?Come now, let us reason together,? says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow: though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land; but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.? For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
No matter what anyone has done, it is obvious from these scriptures that if they repent God will forgive and accept them.
Now let us look into the New Testament.
Romans 10:13
?Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.?
2 Peter 3:9
??He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.?
1 John 1:12
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God?
As long as a person is alive, they can repent and be saved. If physical death comes and a person has ignored or rejected Jesus Christ and has never received him they can only expect judgment and condemnation.
One of Satan's most used tactics is to make a person feel like they are separated from God and there is no method of reconciliation left. Satan wants his victims to feel doomed and to just give up. Don't fall into this trap. remember 1 John 1:12 above.
Also remember the warning and danger. When a person is truly saved the Holy Spirit comes into a person and begins to change them from the inside out. The Holy Spirit rebukes, convicts, encourages, and guides a person in their thinking. A saved person may slip into sin but the Holy Spirit will be working on their conscience and make that a very uncomfortable place to be. Whereas an unsaved person will romp and frolic in sinning, there will be no Holy Spirit within to restrict them. Herein lies the danger of perdition. Unsaved persons enjoy and feel so comfortable in their sins that they do not want to repent and turn to Christ. If they never repent before physical death, they are doomed to perdition(Hell).
Do you feel guilty. The cure is confession. Admit to God that you are a sinner, thank Him for sending His Son Jesus Christ to pay for the penalty of your sins on the Cross. Ask God to save you and help you live for Him. Then believe and trust God, His Word promises that he will hear and act on your confession.
With the passing of time truth stands and validates.
Hebrews 10:26 deals with the people who do not want Jesus Christ and the forgiveness he offers. They choose some other way.
John 14:6 Jesus answered, ?I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,
This is why Jesus is hated by the secular world. They do not want what God has provided. They want to live life their way and be the God of their own lives. They do not want to be under the reins of Christ. The secular world will not accept that there is only one way to God?s forgiveness.
The Lord Jesus Christ created the universe. People may not like him, they may even hate him, but there is no way they can ultimately shut absolute truth out of creation. Truth always stands up and shouts with the passing of time.
C.S. Lewis started out as an atheist. In his book The Case for Christianity he states " Like in arithmetic - there's only one right answer to a sum, and all other answers are wrong: but some of the wrong answers are much nearer being right than others."
In arithmetic, mathematics, and physics; there foundation is the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division tables. One plus one is two, one times two is two. There is only one correct answer. Some people may want one plus one to be four, but it is not. There are situations which require absolute truth to arrive at the right answer.
Now is the time for salvation. Each time a person refuses to repent their heart gradually becomes a little harder. With the passing of time they may not choose to repent at all.
