It is not what church that we attend that saves us, it is trust in what Jesus Christ did while on this earth.

Faith is very important to God. He says in Hebrews 11 that it is impossible to please Him without faith. Faith in what? Faith in what He said as revealed in the Bible, because that is His Word. The central figure in the Bible is Jesus Christ, God’s divine Son and God’s one and only redeemer and mediator according to the Bible. God created man and His method of salvation is through trusting faith in Jesus Christ.

Even Billy Graham, the great evangelist, said that his own goodness was not good enough to get him into heaven. What was required was faith in the work of Jesus Christ who lived a sinless life. Our works are not good enough to save us, trusting faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus is God’s way of Salvation.

God is made up of three persons, The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are all active in our redemption. The Father makes the plans, the Son carries them out, and the Holy Spirit impresses and reminds us who God is and what He wants. The Father’s plan was for Jesus, the Son, to redeem us. Jesus (God) came to the earth in the body of a man. He died on the cross and shed his blood to cover our sins. Jesus paid the full price as required by God the Father for our redemption. Then when He died, He was buried. Three days later He was resurrected to show that He had the power over sin and death. He conquered them. All that God requires is our faith and trust in what Jesus did for us, and to let Jesus be Lord in our lives.

When we place our faith in Jesus Christ, His Holy Spirit comes in to live in us. Gradually He begins to prick our conscience and guide us so we begin to know what He wants us to do. With the presence of the Holy Spirit, our minds and conscience have a new standard to lead us.

We still sin, but we find out how much He loves us. We more and more just want to please Him and not disappoint Him. The Holy Spirit encourages, goes along beside us, and sometimes disciplines us. The Bible says that if a father loves his children, he will discipline them. I know myself that I’m a sinner, and God sometimes uses that discipline on me. God forgives sins, but sins have consequences. My life works much better when I do things His way. We fight the impulse to be God of our own lives as long as we live in this earthly body. But He loves us, accepts us, and never rejects us, because we trust in Jesus Christ.

Being a morally good person does not get us to heaven, only trusting in what Jesus did for us on Calvary’s cross will do that. That is God’s one and only way of Salvation that the Bible talks about.

John 6: 28 Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"

29 Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

John 6: 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.

39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.

40 For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

Romans 10: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."

12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,

13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

We admit to God that we are a sinner. We ask Him to save us for Jesus' sake. We share our new faith with others. As Jesus promised, He gives to us the Holy Spirit in our lives. Our conscience begins to respond to this new awareness to influence our heart, mind, decisions, and the way we interact with others.
