Spirits and Ghost

I can remember my oldest daughter when small asking me; “Daddy are ghost real?” What would you tell someone that asked you that? Have you ever thought about it?



There are volumes that have been written and countless movies that have been made concerning those subjects. But let me ask you, have you ever looked to see what the Bible says in regard to those subjects. The Bible is absolute truth, and it has just the right amount of information to bounce any inquiry off of to come up with a factual answer.



Searching other sources will lead you down many roads, but are they beneficial? Are they dangerous? Are they defiling? One thing you can be sure of, if you inquire of them in the Bible you will be able to see them in the true light with the proper perspective. This will warn you of going down destructive paths that will lead to destruction. Instead it will lead you in a constructive way that will bless, build you up, and will help you to avoid the pitfalls of error.



Lets look at some Bible scripture.

Leviticus 19: 31 "'Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.


Leviticus 20: 6 "'I will set my face against the person who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute himself by following them, and I will cut him off from his people.



Isaiah 8: 19 When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?


Isaiah 47: 13 All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you.


14 Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. Here are no coals to warm anyone; here is no fire to sit by.


15 That is all they can do for you-- these you have labored with and trafficked with since childhood. Each of them goes on in his error; there is not one that can save you.



Proverbs 11: 27 He who seeks good finds goodwill, but evil comes to him who searches for it.

I am reminded of those seekers on TV who are constantly seeking out paranormal experiences to make contact with spirits. They do not realize what they are dabbling with. It is amazing what lengths people go down to satisfy a curiosity, one that could be very destructive if they make contact with a spirit that has no good will for them. Rather than spend all that time finding out more about the God who created and loves them, they get misled into making contact with destructive forces that want to waste their time, misdirect them and ultimately destroy them.



Let’s look at more Scripture.

Luke 4:33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an evil spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice,


34 "Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!"


35 "Be quiet!" Jesus said sternly. "Come out of him!" Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.


36 All the people were amazed and said to each other, "What is this teaching? With authority and power he gives orders to evil spirits and they come out!"


37 And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area.

Luke 16: 16 Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.


17 This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved."


18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, "In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!" At that moment the spirit left her.


19 When the owners of the slave girl realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities.


20 They brought them before the magistrates and said, "These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar


21 by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice."


22 The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten.


23 After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully.


24 Upon receiving such orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.


25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.


26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose.


27 The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped.


28 But Paul shouted, "Don't harm yourself! We are all here!"


29 The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.


30 He then brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"


31 They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household."


32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.


33 At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his family were baptized.


34 The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God--he and his whole family.

This slave girl was following Paul around and being very annoying. Finally Paul had enough and through the power of Christ the spirit came out of her. This just shows that even those who are caught up in spiritualism can turn to Jesus Christ for help. Jesus Christ has the power to set the captive free of whatever the chains of bondage that are holding them prisoner.



Demons are deceivers. They are the ones that make up the ghost sightings that people talk of. They give those who seek information through them just enough bait to keep them occupied with deception. Demons were acquainted with those dead people that individuals make the effort to contact through mediums and seances. They can give out private information about a situation because they were acquainted with it. People need to keep in mind that these beings do not have their best interest at heart. Their ultimate goal is to mislead, confuse, dishearten and destroy those who contact them. Remember the scriptures from Leviticus and Isaiah above. The Bible instructs us not to make contact with any angel or spirit. We are too easily deceived.

2 Corinthians 11: 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.


15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness.

The righteous angels that follow God have our best interest at heart. We do not have to seek them. They protect us and carry out God’s orders and purposes for us. God chooses to hide this spiritual dimension from us for our own good.



What can we ultimately conclude from this?

2 Peter 3: 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

Philippians 4: 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!


5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.


6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.


7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.


8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.


9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me--put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.


Can Satan bind a child of God? Can a Christian sell his or her soul to the devil?
