The Law of the God of the Bible

Today as we look at the Church of Jesus Christ, the question comes to mind. Why is the law not mentioned from the preacher’s pulpits more often?

One of our favorite scriptures is from Luke 24:45-47 talking about a statement of Jesus.

45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

46 He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,

47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Verse 47 states “repentance and forgives of sins” will be preached in his name around the world. But is that done today?

Jesus states in Matthew 5:17-20:

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

So many times the pastors of today preach a politically correct gospel. The church has compromised with sin for so long that we are beginning to lose our freedoms. Today the Church does not repent because it is not taught about what to repent from? The Church seems to be clueless and wandering around in the dark.

Let us look at a few of the blessing that David speaks of concerning the law.

Psalm 119:75 I know, O LORD, that your laws are righteous, and in faithfulness you have afflicted me.

Psalm 119 :129 Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them.

130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.

131 I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands.

Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.

166 I wait for your salvation, O LORD, and I follow your commands.

167 I obey your statutes, for I love them greatly.

168 I obey your precepts and your statutes, for all my ways are known to you.

169 May my cry come before you, O LORD; give me understanding according to your word.

In the New Testament we find warnings from Israel’s history in 1 Cor. 10:11 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come.

In Acts Chapter 15 at the Council of Jerusalem Paul and the others come to the following conclusion in verses 19-20 and is repeated in verse 29.

29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things. Farewell.

The modern day church is doing a bad job of bringing this up especially about the abstaining from sexual immorality.

Think of it, when is the last time you read or your children were read from the law Leviticus Chapters 18 through 20. Proverbs 5 through 7, Proverbs 22:14, Eccl 7:26. Our kids are saturated with the secular world’s perception of sex, but even from the pulpit it is almost never mentioned. We want to tell them the dangers before they get involved, not after the fact. An once of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Do we think they will absorb it through osmosis?

What can we do for the present pastors and preachers of today churches? Pray for them! Encourage them! Stand with them! The church of today is strong on criticism and short on support. The odds are horrific today against the longevity of pastors. In the eighties the statistics showed that only a small percentage remain as a pastor when reaching retirement age. We should give pastors the benefit of the doubt and constantly hold them before the God’s throne to encourage them. God will make it clear to them what he expects.

We must do something to protect our precious children and love ones! If there is a poisonous snake in the grass - shout snake to warn them!
